Having just looked at Alice's work, the general consensus is one has to look at a smaller problem. Alice first looked at rectangular grids. However, by looking at all different types of shapes, the square grid comes out more naturally.

I think that all of us approached the problem in a very similar way, starting by specializing and breaking down the question into a smaller one. Then, we went onto finding the pattern and generalizing the problem. Way to go, team~ =)
